Schumi was the best of his (mediocre) era, and even that is mainly due to the his circumstaces of privilege unparalled in the sport's near 60 year history (ie. application of ferrari's BILLIONS of dollars for more than a decade - focussed on him exclusively. Hell he only won 5 out of 11 for them he should have won at least 8. Senna would have won 10 - all but 96 in Schui's cars.) __________________________________________________ | |

I acknowledge Schumi is possibly the 2nd best, with Prost or Fangio, of the 800 F1 drivers ever. But Senna was in another dimension to the rest of them - a Superhuman once-per-century freak. He was a magician of impossible talent that all of us veterans of F1 know for a cold hard fact - no one was even close to the great master. That will never be in any doubt whatsoever. And that was Murray Walker, whose thinking was always somewhat muddled. Every other person I have heard or read says Senna was the best ever. He was acknowledged as the best ever, even while he was still racing. Commentators (eg. James Hunt), Jounalists (eg. Alan Henry), Team-managers (eg. Ron Dennis), ex-drivers (eg. Jones, Lauda) all said as early as 1993 and even 1990 that Senna was the best ever. So, it's got nothing to do with death and martyrdom - it's just the objective judgement of Senna's talent. __________________________________________________ | |
