Description:

READ THE UPDATE! Bill Richardson falsely stated that the border fence had not worked anywhere along the border, yet the San Diego Border Fence has dramatically reduced the numbers trying to cross in that area. Even NPR admits it: http://www.npr.org/templates/story/story.php?storyId=5323928 As for his statement that Mexico is a "friend", see, among many other pages which could be provided, this: http://www.city-journal.org/html/15_4_mexico.html Chronology of the fence here: http://www.house.gov/hunter/border1.html Transcript of the Meet the Press show where Richardson made his statements here: http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/18818527/page/3/ 5/29/07 UPDATE: It looks like I'm not going to have to make any more Bill Richardson videos, if the following review of his full MTP appearance is any guide: http://www.slate.com/id/2167195/fr/rss/ Title: "Richardson's Runaround/The New Mexico governor self-destructs on Meet the Press." In the meantime, it would be nice if his defenders were a bit less, shall we say, Clintonian. I'm refering to those in the comments who are (apparently deliberately) misunderstanding his current remarks. He clearly meant that the border fence had not worked anywhere on the border, and just as clearly that's a lie.

You are ridiculous, and obviously hell-bent on defaming Richardson for any reason you can. "It hasn't worked" isn't a "lie", it's a perfectly justifiable statement--illegal border crossing has a whole has continued to rise, even after the San Diego fence got built! People just went through another area! And you think, if it was a 10-ft high wall on the whole border, folks wouldn't get "an 11-ft high ladder", as Richardson says?

It's to laugh! Tim Russert asked Richardson whether the fence has worked "anywhere along the border". Richardson replied that it had not. Obviously, the fence works in San Diego. Ergo, Richardson lied. Someone who's not a loose borders hack/OAS appointee would have pointed to San Diego as an example of how fencing works.

NoMoreBlatherDotCom's assertion is pretty weak, citing one city's fence as evidence against Richardson's statement that the fence "hasn't worked". If you calculate the # of border patrol agents and resources at or near the Tijuana border and expect to have the ability to duplicate that across every cactus crossing in CA/AZ/NM/TX you are kidding yourself.

However, I have been a Richardson fan until the past few months. Meet the Press really debunked him as a Presidential candidate for me. I felt Biden and McCain held up much better and emerged stronger under Russert's invasive microscope.

So what about the part of San Diego where there was an underground tunnel that lead into the heart of downtown San Diego that the illegals had been using for over 8 months to come into the country? What good is a fence if they just tunnel under it? Booyakasha, in your face.

That's because Richardson's not a career senator. Biden and McCain have had the rhetoric down for a long time.

How can anyone defend Richardson? Ask him about the nuclear plant, and he skirts his way around it. Ron Paul is the ONLY honest candidiate.

Just to make this clear, if Bill Richardson had said it hadn't worked in general, there wouldn't be such a problem. However, in answer to the specific question as to whether it had worked "anywhere along the border", he said it had not. Since it works in San Diego, anyone who's intellectually honest is forced to admit that Richardson lied.

Sure that San Diego fence works now, but he's talking about the long run. Look for some 21-foot ladders to be built in Mexico.

The fence may have worked well in San Diego, but that is only a small area and easy to patrol. I doubt very much if it is going to work along the vast empty border area.
