I used cats as an example of another animal that will kill for shear enjoyment. But I do not believe that cats are near as intelligent as humans. All mammals have a nervous system and a brain, hence they are all inherently sentient. And NO, the animal predators kill to survive. Man kills for fun, for convenience, for pleasure, for sport, for food.
