Description:
The suspected water intoxication death of Jennifer Lea Strange reported here in Sacramento over the weekend was very sad. Some of the coverage and the facts, however, made the story even sadder, as I show in this video. The short clip from my local ABC news affiliate KXTV channel 10 comes from a longer segment available at: http://www.news10.net/includes/buildasx.aspx?fn=/january2007/011307/radio-death-sat.wmv The Sacramento Bee stories I reference are available at Sacbee.com with a free registration, or, much further news info is available at: http://news.google.com/news?client=safari&rls=en&ie=UTF-8&oe=UTF-8&tab=wn&ncl=1112701123&hl=en |

MrDenny246 ::: Favorites My teacher thought me today that even to much water is bad for you, just like to much sodium, is bad for you. Drinking to much water unbalances the salt/water ratio in your body. 07-04-30 23:32:00 _____________________________________________________

sdc100 ::: Favorites Although I think the DJ's should definitely be punished for their callous disregard of human life (re: the nurse's call), this is different from the hazing because she signed a waiver. Not only that but they even offered concert tix to have her quit. Furthermore, other contestants did drop out showing no coercion or restraint. In hazing, there is no signed waiver and often intimidation (even physical) to keep the event going. 07-06-24 15:46:26 _____________________________________________________
sdc100 ::: Favorites I'm less concerned about water intoxification than the physical trauma of her distended abdomen. In rare cases, her stomach can burst. In a recording, she described herself as looking pregnant. That's a lot of pressure because the bulge has to push against the abdominal muscles and skin to show. Water intox is the imbalance of water and electrolytes/salt in the blood. Electrical signals don't conduct well, i.e. heart contractions, the nervous system, etc. 07-06-24 15:53:56 _____________________________________________________

Canaximander ::: Favorites First, I think if you check out who owns the radio station, I'd bet it's not just one rich old lady like WKRP. Betcha it's a very lagre corp. Make of that what you like. Second, I think their should be laws against such risky activity for a damn game. You don't have to be a Dr. to know 2 gallons in a sitting might hurt you. That being said I hope someone is pointing out that drinking the RIGHT ammount of water can be very good. Dehydration (even at small levels) also harms. Right? 07-07-09 22:15:19 _____________________________________________________ |
